Hanil Cement has been certified as an excellent company under the Energy Efficiency Target Management Program (KEEP 30) for the second consecutive year. Following the certification of its Danyang Plant last year, the Yeongwol Plant also received the recognition this year. The certification ceremony was held on December 5 at The Westin Josun Seoul in Jung-gu, Seoul.
KEEP 30 refers to a group of 30 energy-intensive companies that have entered into voluntary agreements with the government to improve their energy intensity by more than 1% annually from 2023 to 2027. Energy intensity is defined as the amount of energy consumed per unit of product produced.
In 2024, Hanil Cement’s Yeongwol Plant achieved a 6.72% improvement in energy intensity, meaning it used 6.72% less energy to produce the same amount of products. This performance significantly exceeded the target improvement rate of 1%, earning the plant an S-grade evaluation.
The Yeongwol Plant completed the construction of an eco power generation facility in 2024 with an investment of approximately KRW 105 billion. The facility generates electricity using waste heat produced during the cement manufacturing process, enabling the plant to self-generate about 30% of its total electricity consumption.
In the same year, the Yeongwol Plant also invested KRW 198 billion to renovate its raw material preheating facilities. Following the renovation, the plant reduced fossil fuel usage while increasing the use of circular resource fuels such as waste synthetic resins, thereby further improving overall energy efficiency.
Hanil Cement stated, “Despite a sharp decline in cement shipments due to the downturn in the construction market, we continue to invest in environmentally friendly facilities,” adding, “We will remain committed to improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.”
